Thumbs up North Branch float/fish 7/3/17:

Headed out with thmyorke1, launched onto the Lamington at Burnt Mills Road.
Had no shortage of smallmouth the entire float. Nothing really photo worthy but all respectable fish. We caught sunfish, smallmouth bass, a crappie, rock bass and a fallfish (chub) No trout or Larries.
Did a little impromptu clean up along the way. The North Branch of the Raritan river is one of the cleanest rivers in NJ if you ask me.
Had a heart stopper as I nailed a huge fish out of a deep hole. At first I thought I snagged a big carp, then got some nice heads shakes so at that point I knew it was probably a huge smallmouth. The fish is smoking my drag and thmyorke1 is paddling the canoe trying to catch up to the fish. The monstah runs under a huge log, comes up on the other side, does some massive heads shakes just below the surface then bats a fin at us and gone, rats !!!!
Hit one blow down toward the end that was a PIA !

We actually did pluck a lmb (like 4 inches). Out of that lil hole I fished a ton of rock bass out of.

A bummer that we missed that fish you hooked. However still a fun day, thanks Andy

...

I highly recommend his guide service, free tires and second hand smoke included!

You can go quite a ways up the North and South Branch from the launch point at the confluence.

There were some huge smallies in the North Branch below the Lamington when I fished it as a kid. Glad to see there are some left. Always like to see what's happening on Da Rivah!
