![]() Caught a few chubs in the SB a week or so ago when fishing with my little girl. Considered using them as bait but wasnt sure on the regs so let it be. Is it kosher to keep minnows from the trout fisheries?

![]() It's imperative that you 1.) release all creek chub and 2.) tell me where you caught them so I can assess their population.

![]() Baitfish regs are on page 31 of the Digest. Chubs are classified as a baitfish, daily limit is 35.

![]() Any legal species caught can be used as bait. I've used live trour, sunfish, perch, bullhead, crappies, as well as suckers and creek chubs. Game fish have to be caught with a rod and reel, must meet minimal size limit and you can't keep more then your creel limit. Bait fish such as creek chubs also have a creel limit bit have additional methods of being caught

![]() i think there used to be a rule about keeping creek chubs from trout stocked streams during times closed for stocking...i don't feel like looking it up right now but check the regs

![]() I've done well in the past using creek chubs for toothy critters and the occasional bass. The bigger, the better.

![]() I was 17, one of my brothers 10, when we fished near Bull's Island on the Big D. Back then I owned a real boat. I had potted minnows in the Little Shabakunk, and one of them was a nice, big, 7-inch creek chub we saved for last & I let Rick use. We tipped jigs with the minnows & caught lots of small walleye (December). Rick heaved the chub and soon braced, fast to something monstrous running upriver. Didn't snap the line, drag set well, but the hook tore off. Big walleye, we supposed, but that could have been a musky he hooked on the mouth edge.

![]() In other words, fill the bucket and see what I can catch on 'em. Should be interesting.
Saw a very big fish in the SB last night, assuming a catfish but I guess it could have been a carp. Swam right up to me as the sunfish were chasing the grub into shore and then gone. If I wasnt wearing costas, would be questioning the whole experience..... |
