Acadia National Park, Maine
I am leaving for a week in Acadia on saturday morning. Between all the hiking, biking, and whale watching with the gf, I would like to try to catch some fish. I know it is probably not the ideal time of year, but I will have my kayak and am willing to do some exploring. Has anyone been in that area before? I would also like to take an hour or two excursion inland to some type of body of water. I am more interested in bass, pickerel, and pike than trout, but I will go after anything. Thanks for any info.

Re: Acadia National Park, Maine
This doesn't exactly answer your question, but hopefully it helps some. I've never been up quite that far so I can't comment on the salt there. My brothers and I just returned from a week of freshwater fishing a little further south though. Get yourself a DeLorme's atlas, find some smaller bodies of water that don't have the full boat launch icon next to them and then do some googling to make sure the body of water in question has just a simple cartop launch(the atlas isn't always correct)-- you'll find some real gems that way. I can't take credit for this advice, it was given to me by someone that guides up there, but I can say that we put it to use and it worked really well. I am a terrible fisherman but we did much better this year than we had on previous trips where we fished in our kayaks alongside people in bass boats on the more medium sized bodies of water.

Re: Acadia National Park, Maine
Party boats up there will go mostly for mackerel, lots of small ponds up in that area. White spinnerbaits will catch al 3 up there. Best advice is to get the atlas and do some exploring. Good luck! If it wasn't so damn cold up there I would retire in maine. I love it up there!

medium size top water plugs.even the smallest ponds and rivers have great smallmouth and loads of pickerel.

Re: Acadia National Park, Maine
check the regs carefully, maine has a lot of differences compared to NJ
for example, pike are an invasive and not to be released alive in many waters up there

Re: Acadia National Park, Maine
Pike have really taken over especially in the Belgrade lakes area. We have caught a number of them over 10 lbs over the years. The compendium states that they are not to be released alive and should be harvested. The osprey's and eagles love when we throw them on the rocks.

Re: Acadia National Park, Maine
I went there last October for a week to check out the fall colors and sightsee. Had the opportunity for fish Lower Hadlock Pond from the shore for an hour before sunset one day. The brookies there were very active. Also spent one afternoon fishing the Orland River near the Alamosook Lake Dam. Caught a lot of brookies just below the dam. Fished the lake at the dam and caught some decent largemouth and smallmouth. Good luck.

Re: Acadia National Park, Maine
Thanks for the advice everyone. Just got up here and it is beautiful. Worth the scenery evens if I don't catch much. That being said I have been trying to scout some skinny water on Google maps and I will put in an effort up here!
