Default weekend ice fishing report

i fished saturday, i hit a small lake...it really wasn't that bad, a strong gust now and then not too cold, didn't even open the hand/feet warmer packs. unfortunately it was a slow day, the fish were picky as hell, bum rushing my jig on almost every drop and then just floating next to it for up to 20 seconds at a time...it was pretty ridiculous. tried a few different lures with different crap tipped on it, but all i could manage was a few perch; two were pretty nice though (11" and 12"). also a few avg pickerel on tip ups.

Sunday we hit swarts, plan was walleye and smallies...we didn't know there was a massive contest there haha, oh well we got a decent spot anyway or so we thought...the fish seemed pretty aggressive but apparently we were in pickerel central! no weeds near most of the area we were. mostly deeper water 15-30ft. pickerel everywhere bottom, suspended, everywhere! moved in shallow, even more pickles! we were trying to get on our target fish and just couldn't avoid them. I'm not complaining, catching is catching, but it was frustrating to see aggressive fish and not be able to find them cause you just know they'd bite if you found them!

8 days out so far in 2015 with 45 fish tallied up, about 5.5 fish average per day...sadly not too bad considering my past ice fishing track record! haha

Good job under pressure. I hit a small lake in Morris Co with a friend. Final tally:
10 large gills, 2 perch 12 and 13" with the biggest going 1 1/4lb, 3 crappies each at 1 lb, 3 pickerel and 1 1 3/4 lb bass. All from 12-5pm. Only now finished cleaning them

We were out there as well fishing the contest. The Pickles were insane, thats all we could catch. No Bass, no good jig bite, just a Pickeral Party. Real nice day out there at least. Lots of anglers entered the contest. I believe a 5 Lb LM took first place yesterday. YEA BUDDY!!!

yeah we had a rough day on SW, they didnt wanna chew on anything. Eddie spread his gear out on good waters w nothing good to show for it. I had my camera down on a hot hole and had a walleye come in 4 times on diff lures/presentations and not even peck at it, also had a nice smallmouth do the same. a nice perch came in hot and inhaled a fathead on a tungsten jig, thats the only aggressive fish of the day, except of course the loads of baby pickerals stealin bait all day. hopefully we get em next trip

our area had extremely aggressive average to decent sized pickerel but that was it and we were trying to get off them and on some walleye. I was jigging up pickerel up super high in the water column in 20-30ft water off rocks and sand and in shallower by rocks and by weeds, EVERYWHERE. we had more bait stolen and more lines cut than pretty much ever! Like i said, catching is catching i guess but i had very specific targets in mind...

those damn walleye are going to get an icey hook in their lip one of these days from me! They've eluded me through the ice long enough!
