Thumbs down Delaware 6/7

Hit a couple of my go to spots in the Easton area for some SMB and whatever else was biting fishing.
A glorious day out weather wise....not so much with the catching.
Fished shiners and worms and spinners, wading from shore.
Caught 2 SMB one 12'' one 14'' and 1 large Bluegill.
Saw only one other fisherman, in a boat, who gave me a wide birth when he saw me wading in his path of travel...thank you sir.

Did see lots of rod holding sticks on shore in my spots that I never have seen before.
Did not see any fry around nor many surfacing fish.
First time to this area this year and the flooding has really carved up the shoreline.

Time for new spots I guess. No pixs as wading and cameras don't mix and I was solo and there wasn't much to photograph anyways.

The fishing will turn on very soon. Fry and bait everywhere last night a little bit south of your spots. Got into some very nice fish last night. Can't say what kind of fish, but yep, there IN!!!!!

Wilson, location and timing are key on the D. I just rolled home after a very good evening on the river. 22 and 27 inch stripecats as well as 18, 20 and 23 inch eyes. Threw some bait early just to wait out the boats, jetskis and family gatherings and missed 2 big runoffs. Switched to my magic lure right before nightfall and BAM! Work seems to be F**king up my fishing schedule lately, but I'll make do.

.

I fished the Delaware Water Gap at Route 80 this afternoon.

It was weird because the rangers had the place locked down tight. I guess they were determined not to have the number of drowning they had had last summer. The main parking lot was gated off at one end and they had two park rangers closing the entrance at the other end. The lot was full of cars so I assume they let new cars in as other cars left.

The parking lot for the boat ramp (next to the beach) had a big sign that said "Parking By Permit Only". I have no idea what this permit thing is, so I left.

On the other side of route 80, they had the parking lots barricaded because they were full and the lawn area next to it was closed off to parking.

For some reason I can't explain, I was determined to fish the Route 80 area. I drove up to the parking space by the 3-minute light, unloaded my kayak, and sent my kayak tumbling off the steep bank into the water. I scared the crap out of an old bucket-sitter fishing under the bridge. Then I loaded my kayak up and paddled away.

The scenery and weather were beautiful, but the fishing was not great. I was catching fish, but I seriously didn't catch a Smallmouth bigger than eight inches all afternoon.

It didn't used to be this way. I recall the fishing being much better when I was younger. I'm not a fisheries biologist, but I blame over-harvest and the young-of-year disease (columnaris) for the poor yields.
