![]() Last season I rigged up 30 or 40 lb Fluro . I tied off a Dropper Loop ranging from 12-18 inches from bottom of rig. I then tied two Tactical Clips . One to the dropper loop , which I cut the loop first and then tied it .
The Rigs were finished with a Barrel Swivel and tied to the mainline. The clips helped when Tide or depth changed , made it easier to interchange different Bucktail weights . I try and fish the lightest Bottom Bucktail , that allows contact with bottom/ structure , and always a small (less than an ounce up top . Just wanted to get feedback on what you guys use for light gear Bucktailing. Its rig tying time , so just wanted some shared experiences . Might have worked better without the Clips ? Tim M |

![]() i personally stay away from clips because i lose a rig every 10 minutes anyyway lol. i also preferred 20lbs or less for the leader.

![]() If I can avoid using any extra hardware I will. My go to Bucktail rig is 25-40lb Fluoro (unless not in ocean). Bucktail on the bottom and a dropper loop 18 inches above for the teaser, I will use a barrel swivel between the rig and main line. My buddy uses a loop at the bottom rather than tying a Bucktail direct in order to change sizes and colors easier.
If their is no drift in the deep, I will eliminate the teaser, drop down in leader size and just cast a single Bucktail. |

![]() Quote:
I use a long top shot, a loop at the bottom to be able to change bucktails easy and if it breaks I use the remainder of the top shot to tie another rig on the fly.

![]() Plain hook on a 6" dropper 8-10" above the bucktail. Bait that hook with a gulp and youre good to go. No need to cut the dropper loop and compromise the line. Keep cost down by not using two bucktails.

![]() Less hardware is the way to go. I snell a fluke hook that I tied up during the winter (chartruese, pink, or white), with strong leader material approx 30inches. Tie a barrel swivel 6 or 7 inches from the hook with a loop through and around the swivel, and snug up. From the swivel measure about 18inches , and fold the leader back and make a double thru medium to large loop and tighten up. Cut off slack leader. For River use only, I will shorten a couple of inches. Sinker or Bucktail jig can be attached to the loop. I often outfish everyone on the boat with this rig, especially when I'm alone. Catch 'em up....Papa

![]() Lose the hardware. Droppers and loops only, adjusted for depth and current as needed. Snaps can fail and you don't want it to happen with a "Mat" on the other end.
