I agree I'd be generous to even say maybe 14 but without measurements its hard to even give it that. 20lbs though is a long shot.

I heard it was in the mid-30" range. A little overzealous with the weight estimate for sure lol. Have run into that guy on the river before, seems like a nice guy. I think he's fairly new to the Pike scene. Respectable fish nonetheless.

Wouldn't be the first Pike exaggeration we've seen though haha...

.

That is a great pike, but not twenty pounds.

Most people are poor judges of weight, especially when the fish is bigger than what they usually catch. I have to roll my eyes when people tell me bout the "ten-pound bass" they caught. Any sizeable bass is a "five or six pounder".

For catch-and-release, I find the online length-weight estimators to be invaluable.

Like this one: http://fishandboat.com/images/pages/...ghtlength3.pdf

Interesting website. I didn't know there wasa NJ fishing reports website.
I'm not in the market for a stick-in anchor for my kayak, but I had to spend a few minutes considering this ad for a "swivel stick anchor"
I have a swivel stick for her.

That's a nice looking pike, probably 12-15lbs. Weight and length is tough to judge with pike unless you've seen a lot of them. I've seen a lot of exaggerated weights and lengths posted. The length to weight formulas don't work well either. I caught a 35" inch fish that was a hair under 16 lbs, and a saw a 39" fish that was only 10 lbs.

Fishingreportsnow is the Fisherman Magazine on line. I could swear most of the info on that site comes from NJF.com

Honestly nothing beats the one weight estimate than when a guy told me while I was fishing the passaic below the great falls. I ask him how the catchin was going and he replies "yeah we catch a lot of carp here. I got one last week (with the most serious face) that weighed 200lbs...". I honestly had to bite my lip cause I almost lost it. I didn't know free willy was swimming around the passaic river LMAO!
