Default Hellgrammites for Bass fishing Lake George?

Has anyone used Hellgrammites for Bass, Trout or any kind a Fishing? Where would I be able to get some of these secrets? I'm heading to Lake George next week and I hear these Hellgrammites are a Bass fisherman's dream bait?

Any and all advice on what to fish for and what to use would be greatly appreciated.

couple of problems.. If you can find hellgramites for sale and use them, the perch and sunnies would tear the crap out of them before the SMB could get near them.. Second, they are illegal to take in any streams that hold trout in NYS, so harvesting your own is out, unless you want a ticket.. I would use small jigs or live crayfish in rocky areas of Lake George for SMB .. Either that, or buy minnows . Leeches would be great as well, but may not be easy to find...Very few bait places sell Leeches or Hellgramites, Most have minnows and crayfish... bob

Fished LG last June for for days at the south end.mostly used tubes worms some rapals, nothing to kinky. Caught tons of smallies and LMB and a few pickerel. Treated it like any other lake. Hope you'll be in a good size boat because it gets real rough being buzzed by cigarette boats. It felt pretty lawless up there.

From a dock or boat I fish senkos, green and purple work well, 4 or 6 inch rigged wacky.
Or cast cleos or panther martins.
Live Worms jigged off bottom work well.
Live shiners and crays also do well on bass.
Most of my LG fishing is from a dock or kayak. Hug the shore weed beds.
Early am or after 5 pm when the boat traffic and wind slows up or after 5 pm till the sun starts to set.

Lake trout are in 100 fow usually around 80-85 feet down. You can jig for emr troll mooselooks but that'd something you need to be dialed in on. It's tough.
Leave that to the pros, book a trip with JJ on Rod Bender, he will get you into some nice lake trout and possibly some salmon.
Good eats there is Mama Risos and the Lake sider and Fates in Bolton.
The Painted Pony Rodeo is always fun and the pre rodeo bbq is great.
Ruggerios horse back riding is a fun hour in the woods.
30+ years going up there, best place in the world.
