![]() They are not poisonous. The 'blowfish" commonly caught in NJ are Northern Puffers, and are perfectly safe to eat.. Just don't eat the guts, they contain some toxins.. There are a few other species of puffer or puffer like fish caught this time of year in NJ, especially the Smooth Puffer which is larger, and the Burrfish, but most puffers are toxic to some degree, and should not be eaten at all...The common Blowfish [ northern puffer] caught in NJ/NY waters is one of the best eating fish caught in NJ... bob
