Default Burning your bux- Helicopter

Talk about a waste of money.

The State Police I guess have some kind of inferiority complex to NYPD
flying a helo for nearly an hour in circles around Sandy Hook & SH bay. Did not even know they had one around here.

Low enough to be annoying over and over again. Perhaps a politico needs a ride?

What's the bill on helo aviation fuel $500 per hour?

According to this report, the chopper was NYPD or USCG and hardly joyriding:

So boaters saw the guy unconscious, but couldn't get him on their boat... what after that ??? That's a bad read!

The media can't report what they don't know, but here's an update ~30 hours after the incident:

It was clearly NJSP, NYPD runs on these calls all the time. I was on the boat inside the Hook and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING was on VHF 16. So you're right I did not hear anything on 16. Not a single Pan Pan for anything in that area. That's what Pan Pan is for. Perhaps the USCG radios were all broken? Or I should search the internet?

And I have never seen the NJSP helicopter in that area on any search in the three decades I've run on mayday calls and actually pulled people out of the water.

And the bizarre search area ran from the ocean included the Navesink River Oceanic Bridge area? Perhaps because the article says he went missing the day before?

I guess you can't rely on Ch 16? My bad. I thought that's what it was there for.

The incident reportedly occurred nearly 24 hours before your OP, so you may have seen the tail end of the search and recovery mission, Capt. Frank. According to this update:
http://www.app.com/story/news/local/...ard/542291001/
the search was called off at ~3:30 PM Saturday, and involved:
A Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook boat crew
A Coast Guard Station New York boat crew
A Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew
New York Police Department Aviation and Marine Unit
New York Fire Department Marine Unit
New Jersey State Police
U.S. Park Police
Atlantic Highlands Fire Department
Monmouth County Sheriff's Office
