Well the ocean striper fishing finally turned on last Thursday for the Canyon Runner crew but then broke wide open Monday with limits on every trip this week and tons of bass over 40 pounds!

As we thought for the past week or so when we kept reading stripers on our Simrad EVOs just hovering in the water column but not feeding - it was only a matter of time. Well time was up Monday. We had almost 20 large bass between our 2 boats today with 5 over 40 pounds and the bulk 30 or better.

Capt. Deane Lambros put on a big bass trolling clinic Monday morning with the first 3 rods in the water landing fish and it only got better from there. Fishing with the Rich Winter charter they limited out on overs and unders by 11am and then went into release mode for an hour or so. Finishing up with a dozen bass with many in the 30-38 pound class.

Capt. Phil Dulanie had the John Post charter out as well Monday on the 60 Ritchie Howell and they got a late start but put together a solid catch as well. Finishing up with 7 bass but 4 of them over 40 pounds on the scales at Clark's Landing.

Tuesday saw the Bill Boyer charter box up a limit of 10 fish and release a couple more with the limit coming very early in the day. Capt. Phi and Capt. Kevin rounded out the crew on this trip.

Then there was Wednesday

Man was it tough to find some fish smaller than 43 inches Wednesday. In just 3.5 hours of fishing we had 9 fish over 43 inches up to 46 inches and 5 fish under. We boated our limit of 5 and 5 and released 4 fish all over 43".

What a blast we had as we had and a great time to plan to have the boats laid up for final preventative maintenance before canyon season starts but with the bass fishing this good we decide to fish. Getting a 5:30am bridge Capts. Phil, Deane and Ryan - and Adam riding along too with a "friend" (who was not supposed to be there) had immediate action about 10 -12 miles north of Manasquan - right where we found them Monday and Tuesday. Many fish were just at or over 40 pounds once again and we had several double headers including two on the same rig.

We made sure we brought back enough fish to take care of John Lane's Crew from Forked River Diesel as they've bent over backwards this spring to work with our schedule even working around today's busman's holiday. Thanks Wally and John!!

On all three days we were fishing 10-15 miles north of Manasquan in 30-60 feet of water. Mojos, Majas and Stretches all produced with not once preferred over the other. Most days we saw some bunker on the way back in the afternoon and on Wednesday they were up at 10am - but did not see any in the early morning.

If you are interested in that last minute trip please call ASAP - 732-272-4445 - we don't have much left but will do some afternoon trips next week for as low at $799 for the whole boat.

It was great to be fishing alongside a bunch of our Canyon Runner Report/Coaching Members today - one of them actually was on the first threasher I heard of this year for over an hour!
