Default Bite alarms

Anyone use a bite alarm? I want something that isn't crap so I'm looking for some first hand experiences cause I have to order online as nowhere I've checked has them. I want to be able to put my rod far away or take a nap and not have to worry about missing it or giving too much line. Something called max bite line alarm (I think) seems to have decent reviews on amazon.

Check out carp websites like bigcarptackle.com. They have a good selection of alarms. You'll need either a rod pod or special bank sticks to screw them into. The Fox Microns work well and they're on the cheaper side at $50. You can find some for $20 too. If you want nicer ones the Delkims are great but they're expensive.

Just purchased one from amazon. Needed acouple more bucks to get free shipping so decided to try it out. Its less than $4 so I dont expect much but the reviews are good, mention its really sensitive and loud. I can let you know how it is when I receive it.

Clip some small bells on end of rod tips. That's how I use to fish with my grandfather at night time. They worked great and very inexpensive.

I do the same when surf fishing the hudson for stripers. Me and all the Chinese guys get them 2 for a dollar at Rt. 46 b&t. Just have to take them off before you set the hook or you'll be jingling all the way...and have to remember to take them off before you cast or they'll go flying. As long as your drag is set loose for the fish to run without taking your rod for a swim, these work great and are cheap.

If you guys get cheap ones make sure they use 9V batteries before you buy them. Some of the cheap Chinese ones come with weird batteries that don't last long and are expensive to replace. The other problem with most of the cheap models is they are too sensitive. They'll constantly beep if it's windy and it gets really annoying. The better ones come with different sensitivity settings and some even have remote recievers that you can keep in your pocket.

Do these alarms only go off as the line is moving, like when a fish takes the bait and runs? Or once the line moves the siren just keeps going off, like if the bait trips it? (Which I wouldn't want)

Those bells aren't going to wake me up from a nap haha.

I've seen the river monsters guy use one that seems perfect, no clue what it's called though

They only beep when the line is moving. If there are waves or wind you'll constantly get beeps unless you have alarms with sensitivity settings. I'm pretty sure Jeremy Wade is using Delkims in River Monsters. Check out that bigcarptackle site. They have BFS bank sticks that you can screw the alarm into for $8 I think.
