Default Where can I catch edible fish from shore?

I live near lots of ponds that make for some good C&R bass fishing but lately I've wanted to eat a few of the fish I catch. However most of the water around me is questionable (Passaic river, park ponds, lawn ponds) and I don't wanna eat the fish from the waters here. Where can I go to catch clean, tasty fish from the shore? Preferably cats or crappie but I'm totally happy with just bluegill too. I live in Union County.

Don't worry about giving up your spot and having it be fished out, I rarely keep fish, I never keep a limit (2-3 total fish tops) and I usually fish alone. Thanks!

Nj fish and game page would be a good start. It'll show what species is stocked and where.

That, and getting that post count up...

Totally willing to drive. Where are some good spots? The only place near me I trust is when it gets stocked with trout (and fished out in two weeks). I've got a hankerin' for fish.

he has a website?! I remember going there probably 25 years ago when the old guy was running it, no live bait, no fishing on the other side of the ponds, all barbless and he would stalk around with a tractor. I spent more than a few times hiding in the trees on the opposite side from him, and sneaking shiners in an igloo thermos lol. never kept anything from there anyway. driving home stinking of chicken liver, ahhhh the memories...
