Default Nantucket Fluke Report

Joined Yong and the Jigging World charter for 2 days of fishing. It was like a NJFISHING.com reunion. Day one first drift bang 20 inch fish so I let it go (sorry I did). The rest of the day was a GRIND for me but I watched Kurtis put on a show. I ended the day with 3 smaller keepers.

Had a great dinner on Nantucket, tried jigging for squid but no luck. Regrouped and through about what I can change. Went back to the basics and set up 2 poles, one for the good drift (bucktailing) and one for the bad (draggind w/ a fluke ball). First drop....BANG 8.8 lb fish. Five minutes later BANG...8.8 lb fish. Followed that by 2 - 6 lb fish a 5 lb and plenty of 3 pound fish.

Wanted to thank Yong for preparing a fantastic salad for all and bringing rods and reels to play with. Also Palmers teasers helped our group put meat in the box (thanks Anthony).

Guess I have to catch my doormat in NJ this year

Was a pleasure having you guys join us! I did much better with you at my side, I sucked wind on day 2! But I still had a great trip easily limiting out on both days with Jersey sized keepers along with a bunch of seabass up to 3-4lbs, LOL. Plenty of PB's for the group, was happy to be part of it! Already looking forward to our next trip!

Great trip Keefe/Anthony/Yong/Kurtis - I'm going on HH early August, one day Geroges Bank Cod/Haddock, one day Nantucket Shoals Fluke. A few questions:
- How heavy bucktails ?
- Any doormats?
- Did u target Sea BAss? We'll have the clams that we use for Cod. .
- Gulp?
- How/what was boat bait?
- Limited trip, could you fish both sides of boat ?
- When dragging bait, how much max lead ?
- Will the gunwales be over my head if I fish the bow

Thanks for the Intel !!

Lot of guys have been calling me in regards to what seems to work up there and what tackle to bring. Have done up there the last couple of years and had a nice trip this year on their 2 day trip with some really nice fish up to 9.11 lbs 5 oz short of doormat status. Conditions change sometimes from one drift to another so being prepared and adjusting to the conditions is the difference from have a decent to good trip vs having a great trip.

Give me a call and i will fill you in.

#BanHoldingOtherPeopleFish!!
Boat and crew are great. The bait they provide is fine, no need to bring anything else. Bucktails 6oz-10oz. I fished the pulpit this trip and folks know I aint the tallest of the bunch and I was fine. yes you fish both sides of the boat, trick is to go heavier vs lighter on the lead so you fish as straight up and down as possible. Hi/Lo rigs with ligher bucktails or gulp/teasers seemed to work best. Boat provides lead up to 20oz, we used 12-20oz on the last trip. Like Keefe suggested, drift conditions change almost on every drift so adjust accordingly. Pool fish was 11.5, we didn't keep anything under 18", and use the fluke gear for the seabass, we (I, cause Keefe not so much ) had seabass up to 3-4lbs.
