Default Productive day off - 5/19

Slow start but good finish. First lake up was a large, 1000+ acre lake but found water temos still a tad chilly at 58F. Only one bass - but 19" - and a couple dozen hammer handle pickerel in 3 hrs. Next lake was warmer much better. Water was 63F. Caught 6 bass up to 17" and 61 pickerel up to 19". Tossed around a small curly tail grub to entice some panfish and got some decent bluegills, pumpkinseds, perch and a plethora of crappies - a few pushing 14". I even got one crappie on a buzzbait which is very rare. Last stop was a small lake that was covered in algae and weeds. Very few openings but did manage three nice bass of 15", 16" and 18". From what I could see, bass are on beds still.

Amazing tally. Especially 61 pickerel, wow, but those are some very nice bass, too.

Weekdays at lakes with no boats or no other anglers makes for good day. Despite what some may say, angler pressure makes a HUGE difference between a good day and a lousy one. I fished for 9 hrs and saw one boat between three public lakes on state-owned lands. Every lake holds a good amount of fish its just a matter of whether they've already seen ten lures in the last 3 hours or whether they've only seen your lure in the last three days

great job hammering those slime darts.it is strange catching crappies on topwater,i got one on a heddon tiny torpedo. warmer water temps and less pressure definitely helps.
