Default Big D Overnighter 4.16-4.17

Planned to do this trip 2 weeks ago, but 60mph winds and snow had us thinking otherwise . Rescheduled it and glad we did.. 5 of us launched around noon Saturday and reached our destination around 4pm Sunday. Camped out on one of the free sites in the Recreation Area saturday evening, which happened to be in one of my favorite stretches of river.

Between grilling and bs'ing, we managed some time for fishing. Landed a handful of Walleyes, a few Smallies, and a mixed bag of Rockbass/Green Sunfish/etc. Swimshads and bladebaits during the day and jerkbaits at night. My buddy landed one rather strange looking Walleye mid-day on a big floating Rapala . Fish had wart-looking lesions on it, as well as small worms on its fins. Other than being a little skinny (spawned out?), it looked healthy. Unsure of what the condition was, I mentioned keeping the fish to my buddy, but the fish flopped out of his hands while I was snapping pics. Definitely going to forward it to F&W for their input.

Overall, we could not have planned a better weekend. Some fish and scenery pics, as well as a shot of an active Bald Eagle nest through binoculars..

.

That's awesome.
This is a great time of year to be on the river. In less than two months the teeming hordes of summer will descend on the Gap. From then on, the sounds of birds chirping will be replaced by salsa music and screaming picnickers. The river will become a chaotic highway of john boats and flotillas of outfitter canoes.

That walleye definitely ain't right.

They're just warts pretty much! You can cut em off with a sharp blade and the Walleye will swim off just fine! The fish will heal as well!

Anyway! Perfect weekend for a trip like this! Awesome scenery, awesome river! Good fishin' to boot!!! Love trips like these! Good stuff Roberto!!!

Andy I did a lot of scouting at night with my handheld spotlight. Did not see any eyes, but did see lots of Eels, Carp, Suckers, and a few small Bass.

Any chance you'd share info on distances from launch to camp and where you launch etc. actually any info would be greatly appreciated. I'd really like to do this trip. If it's to much to type in box me and I'll give you my number. Appreciate it.
