Keyport Seahawk - 1 nice striper
Not really sure why, but the tough fishing continues for us. Thankfully today 1 fish saved the day. Got some bait and set up with live bunker rig and chunks. The bluefish kept chopping the whole bunkers in half and cutting lines while a few got landed. switched to heavier leader to withstand the blue.
Maddy was having a blast the blues really tested her rookie year skills. She even did a great net job on one of my blues. Then John sets the hook on a fish and passes her the rod. She tried and tried but just couldn't get the fish coming towards the boat. We thought another big blue for sure so papa John took the rod while she took a rest. Ended up being a very nice striper at 38". A little bigger than we like to keep usually but this time it went in the cooler as it was the first striper we caught in 3 trips! When the decent bite of blues and the 1 striper died down we realized we were running a bit low on bait so we shot over to get more thinking we could catch a second bite after the tide swing. what a waste of time, not one more hit for the rest of the day haha. All in all not really a good day, but 1 nice striper saved the day
