![]() So a bit of a rant. So for a couple weeks ago hit one of my spots that only produced small lmb. Well finally saw the big one I heard about. After throwing a ton of different lures at em finally got a hook in. Not 2 seconds later unhooked itself and swam out and jumped a couple times. I'm guessing it wasn't happy at all with getting a hook in the mouth. I must say this one has got to be at least 7 pounds.
Well fast forward to today and once again threw a bunch of stuff at em. I finally got my shipment in a week or so ago. 2 lures in there that I recieved are the mattlures ultimate bluegill. Said screw it and chucked it out. The lure literally hit the water and the bass took the whole thing in. Not once but twice today I got the lure in its mouth was positive that I set the hook since it was a fight. I literally pulled like hell to get this beast in and somehow unhooked itself. I tried letting the bass fight that didn't work then literally used my 30lb super slick and sheer force to stop em from whipping his head. What do you guys think I'm doing wrong? I have never lost a bass so many time I'm so fed up. Sorry for the long post but this is getting quite ridiculous. |

![]() That bass gotta be full of sunnies & bluegills. That's the only thing he'll go after and nothing else.

![]() Might not be feeding, just guarding the nest full of eggs right now.

![]() keep in mind, lines with no stretch like braid, will tear a bigger hook hole in the fish's mouth if you pull too hard or have a rod that is stiff. once the hook hole gets ripped bigger it can shake it off easier.

![]() I hooked em with my flouro twice. I don't think they spawned yet haven't seen any beds and it's almost crystal clear. I've never had such an issue like this its really frustrating. It's funny though there's a bunch of sunnies I guess non go as close I went.

![]() Set your drag properly, sounds like it's too tight. If the fish wants to run, let it run.

![]() pure flouro doesn't stretch either really so i would def loosen the drag, make sure the hook is razor sharp too. I like my hooks to be so sharp they're able to puncture my skin without me even feeling it...but then again i'm a psycho...

![]() My drag the first 2 times was set pretty low so I'll just loosen it a bit more. I normally don't have any issues its just this one damn fish. It's pretty darn sharp I know it was set since I could see it but sharpening it can alway help!
