Default Reading the forecast

Ok. Looking for some opinions here from the more seasoned guys. It is my understanding that west winds will always lay the ocean down for at least the first 2 miles off of the beach.

Here is the marine forecast: http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/AN/451.html

I would think besides some rain, Saturday should be a good day to fish. Light west wind. Someone I trust when it comes on go/no go calls said that there is no way im fishing on Saturday.

Looking for some input. Thanks!

West winds will lay the ocean down, however sometimes it takes some time! It has been very windy here at the beach for a few days now and with winds over 20 knots predicted to persist till early Friday I think there will be a pretty good swell left! It will be fish able from a party boat or large boat but I wouldn't think very comfortable! Also add in the possibility that a lot of fish may be still settling along with the bottom and fishing could be a little slow for a few days after the long blow!
I'm never one to tell someone to stay home because your comfort level and experience on a your boat may be higher then me on mine, but I wouldn't think of taking my 25 footer out on Saturday!

Other then some rain, Saturday looks perfect. It's says 3-5 foot seas but I would bet that is further offshore, not inshore and the few days leading up to Saturday don't look to be too bad so the bottom should not be all churned up.

If the days leading up to Saturday were east N,NE, S or SE the concern there would be the residual effect of the seas churning up the bottom.

If you are on a charter or Party Boat leave the call to the captain. They know where they want to fish and what the weather specifics will mean for that spot.

We are very fortunate that a lot of local boats run open trips. Captains that run these trips sometimes get burned by folks that think they can interpret the weather better than a guy that is on the water 250 plus days a year.

Once you say you want a spot you are committed to sail or to pay. If you cancel at the last minute the captain has a limited ability to replace you. You are in affect taking money out of his pocket. You can't put the trip back into inventory and sell it another day.

This would be on my private boat so no worries about the party boat.

I'm not looking to be a statistic. I will very happily put the boat back on the trailer and go out for a seafood dinner.
For those that know me I sail in a 20 ft Tin Can so weather is very important to me.

I just recall Capt. Ron(who I admire) always said that west winds make for a good day on the water with calm seas.

I thought you were fishing Friday in your tin can?? Whats this talk about Saturday now? Funny that wunderground is the only one showing Saturday West at 5kts. But Friday both sites I use are in agreement.

Both Friday and Saturday. Wife and kids are going skiing at in-laws for the weekend. I may sleep in the boat and fish all weekend!
