Default Sunday Bass Fleet

I've never seen so many boats fishing so close to shore over such a relatively small area. At one time the fleet of boats had to stretch for close to three miles or more. There were a few jackasses who just couldn't resist blasting through the boats and the bait. There were a few uncourteous individuals who ran in between boats that were livelining only yards from their transoms. They couldn't see the bunker schools people were working or they didn't care to see. It was not easy to work around all of the boats to get to the bait, but it wasn't impossible if you just were patient. Check out the fleet pictures from off Lavalette today. Even the Belmar boats were there and the party boats were railed. For the amount of customers and the number of fish available to them, a lot of fishermen on the party boats went home fishless. It's hard enough working a live bunker from a private boat. Getting a bunker to swim away from a party boat must make for some pretty messy tangles.

Boats as far as you could see north and south off Ocean County on Sunday.

I am a boat and surf fisherman. Due to fuel issues over the last few weeks I am grounded for the rest of the year. I was surf fishing the Southern portion of Sandy Hook yesterday between the 36 Bridge and Beach C.

The fleet size proximity to the beach was amazing and kind of funny to watch from the shore. I had my shot twice ... missed a good hit on a top-water plug - had a hook up and good drag pulling run .. then gone.....then a knockdown on Bunker Chunk and another one unbuttoned.... oh well....

The frustrating part is that it looked like two other good shots at fish right in front of me ... but the fleet quickly descended and pushed them right down the beach.... looked like the scene out of Jaws without the dynamite ...

Lot's of life... and not sure if that was dolphin or smaller pilot whale in with the bunker pods running up and down the beach yesterday.....
