Default Larry Holmes KO's the Porgys!

We had former heavyweight champ Larry Holmes on the boat with us today. The fight between Holmes and the Porgys started at 7 am. I was judge and referee for this bout. The first two rounds I gave to the Porgys, Holmes swinging lefts and rights but coming up empty each time. By the third round, the champ was getting the feel for his opponent, and put several in the box. The fourth round Holmes came out swinging. He hurt the Porgys bad and I almost stopped the fight but decided to give the Porgys a standing 8 count. The fifth round Holmes came out fast and hard. He landed a left hook, a right hook, a couple of Mustad hooks, and the fight was over. HOLMES WINS BY KNOCKOUT.
...a little background about my relationship with Larry Holmes. The Champ and I go back many years. About 25 years ago my phone rang and it was Holmes. He told me that I was recommended to him for a charter. I set him up to fish with me on my 25 ft Steiger. After the trip he asked me if I would run his boat, a 35 ft Tiara. I agreed and in between running my charters, I would run his boat. After a couple of years he decided that he no longer needed a boat because he had me and mine. The rest of this story is history, we've been fishing together ever since. The Champ has been a great friend to me and my family. I recall when my wife had her first bout with breast cancer, Larry sent her a pair of pink regulation boxing gloves. On the gloves was written "knock out cancer". My wife, the love of my life, knocked out that cancer! 20 years later it returned but it was a fight she could not win. I feel honored that this man fished on my little Steiger with no head, where he had to pee in a bottle. Larry Holmes in my book will always be the Champ, in and out of the ring. Check out today's pics. Stay well, Capt Tommy Joseph

Great story, with the exception of your wife's loss to cancer. My condolences

Tommy

That was a great report. I remeber reading report from Al Ristori back in the day in the Star Ledger of your blackfish trips with Larry Holmes. Nice to see the relationship has continued. You both are CHAMPS in my book

Tommy I only have found memories of fishing with you. I only wish that I could get out with you again this year but it don't look too good for the next few month's. Stay positive I know you will you got tougher skin then a blackfish. I hope to see you soon.
Doug
