Night fishing

As a lot of you know 90 percent of the time I have for fishing is at night. After chasing cats for a month I'm ready for other spieces. Any advice guys? I'm limited to shoreline fishing.

May and June are prime time, but the peak has passed. We have probably another week of herring spawn madness, so there are still a few Walleyes and Hybrids to be caught on the big lakes and reservoirs. Largemouth will usually participate at night this time of year as well. Everything is shallow now, so this is the time to be a shoreline guy. PM me, I could recommend a few spots...

Your a Sweetwater and Salty angler. My vote is for Sharks off the beach!!! July is prime time for that!

Hit the points, look for structure that holds bait fish.

Work the edges of the weed lines.

Get a topo map of where you are fishing. Small changes in bottom this time of year are key.

Look for cover near deep water access & play the odds of where the predators will be when the dinner bells rings.

Time to break out all those cool top water lures just sitting in tackle back collecting dust. Spilt jitter bugs & the usual suspects...we all have them.

If that fails go with drop shots & senkos, slow it down & have a beer & listen to a ball game.

Enjoy the last of the spawns while it lasts- dog days are coming.

I did a lot of night fishing in the past. My best carp fishing is at night. I caught herring in the Delaware River at night on 1/32 oz jigs many years ago. Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, walleyes, sunnies, perch, crappies and catfish hit well at night. If you want big bass, use a black Jitterbug at night during the new moon.

The majority of my fishing the past few years has been at night because I usually can't get on the water until 7 or 7:30. A T-rigged Senko kills bass even after the sun sets. The odd thing (to me at least) is that dark colors work best. I tried white and chartreuse thinking that the bass would see them better, but they don't seem to work as well.

A Jitterbug off the pads, or something else noisy like a Heddon Torpedo, Devil Horse, or Rapala Skitterpop can be really effective.

Dark colors work best at night, as they really make a silhouette for the fish to dial in on.
