Default D&R Canal 3/30

I took a quick break from the house work this afternoon to do a little scouting and fun fishing. Did a little scouting at one of the locally stocked trout streams with nothing more than a pair of sunglasses and a container of meal worms. No life in any of the three locations I checked. Nothing free swimming or eating the free mealworms that I was tossing about. I was hoping that it had been stocked before last weeks rain so that it would spread the fish out a bit but no such luck.

I grabbed a dozen shiners and headed over to the canal to try for my first open water fish of the year. Took about an hour but I finally managed to get a decent pickerel. The fish was lethargic but still fun on the tiny ice combo I caught it on.

I did little walk around some smaller streams over the weekend to scout and they too were devoid of trout.

It's a shame with access issues (ice/mud/snow) at some of the bigger waters that the smaller clear rivers didn't get fish early that could have spread around the last week or so with high water.
