Default Weekend fishing report hopatcong

fished hopatcong Saturday even though I wanted to try rvr, I got talked into trying a new spot on hopatcong. Anyway after waiting at does till Lori opened up and then lugging our crap across the lake some guys with a quad best us to the point so we set up shop off the opposite side. Promising spot with a nice weed bed and then a double drop off 10 20 35' rocky bottom. We set up the tip ups and I started jigging perch and sunfish. Perch up to a little over 12". Not a single tip up! Why do I even bring them haha! We stayed into dark hoping for a walleye but nothing.

Jigged up a nice 21" pickerel the next day at a private lake but nothing else worth mentioning.

I haven't been skunked yet in 2015 so you won't hear me complaining haha. I probably just jinxed my rvr trip Tuesday after work!! Hahaha! Bring it!

Sounds like a nice weekend man. Way to beat the skunk on every outing too, hahaa! I've had to settle for some small bass and pickerel recently too. Was lookin for a monster at Monksville but got slimed, better than gettin skunked though. Ice is about 1.5-2ft thick there so no punchin them holes just yet either, lol. I actually took my blades to work and hit em with a disc sander... Cuts like butter now! 1st time sharpening them so it's good to know it works and can be done.

I have the same problem, just opposite. Can't even get a snag with my jig rods!! Everything on tip-ups or that slammer. Can give some tip-up info if you have some jigging advice. Also, good luck at RV Tuesday.

Hopatcong was crazy hot on Sunday morning.

Had a group of about 20 people set up in one area and morning was the flag city. They were going up like crazy and pretty much everything you can think of was caught. Pickerels, crappies, perch, bass, catfish, sunnies everything.

But only in the morning though once it got past 10-11 you could see a single flag going up. Sunnies on jig were hitting all day long and got bigger once the day progressed.

Here is some unsolicited jigging advice. I have done very well this year with a small perch colored jiggin rap tipped with a shiner head or small strip of bait.

Esox..........start moving shallow, use a swedish pimple/small spoon w a fathead "head" or some meal worms/mousies. The eyes and perch are about to spawn, we banged a bunch of fatties in 6-8 fow but u need weeds nearby or find a open spot in the weeds and jig there, u will catch them and they are aggressive.

You have to tip the jig with something number one I agree, it can never hurt as long as it's not too big of a chunk to mess the lures action.
