weekend ice fishing report 2/7-8
Headed out saturday in hopes of catching some pike, i needed revenge on the big one that broke my jigging line at the hole. real slow day but my buddy and i managed two average sized ones late morning 22" and my other buddies managed a little furry in the late afternoon with pike just to about 24" range. nothing big all day.
until sundown, panfish jig bite was virtually non-existent except for a bait sized white perch here and there which went on tip ups (nothing touched them). at sundown the panfish went on a little 20 minute frenzy. only one decent white perch and a bunch of small ones with small gills and crappie. anything legal (white perch and gills) and small enough went into a bucket of water to await being bait for my friends for sunday.
Sunday the rest of the guys went back after pike with the bucket of bait and had a better day managing more pike throughout the day and a few nicer ones to 29". Of course i headed elsewhere with my other friend first to target salmon with the tip ups (null on that) while we jigged up some ok pickerel and a nice bass.
Then switched gears to do some small river ice fishing! I've been wanting to try some big river ice fishing but kind of finding it hard to talk someone into going with me haha (wusstastic fishing partners i have!) anyway the panfish bite was on fire there for a little bit but the fish seemed to get soar lips after a while and stopped falling for our lures haha.
