A Wind Blown Thursday
With my work schedule, Mondays are normally my days to fish, but with the recent weather patterns, I have spent the last few Mondays with a snow shovel in my hand. I finally had enough. Last night decided if I could physically get to a body of water today I was going fishing this morning. A quick call to my retired father determined I would not be alone.
Original plan was to meet up this morning and pick up bait and then head to a shallow weedy private lake that normally treats us very very well through the ice. Unfortunately I was informed by my Dad this morning that we might have lost our access and we were back to square one.
We decided to hit up Musconetcong as we used to ice fish it all the time, and while normally being hit or miss, when we hit it right, it gave us some great numbers of decent fish…
Well, today was a miss. We spent 4 hours trying to keep a minimum of holes ice and snow free to no avail. The wind was blowing 20+ all morning and was literally burying my polar tip ups to the point I almost didn't find one under the snow. Combine this with 2"-3" of standing water under 4" of crusty snow, it was not a fun morning.
For our efforts I came up with one 20" ish pickerel on a tip up, and my dad had a jig broken / bitten off right at the hole, (99% sure another pickerel). No other bites or misses.
Oh well, can't say we didn't try...
