![]() Depending on where your dads interests I's say a river trip to the delaware would be a very good choice either up into Ny state for trout, excellent trout fishing up there but recomend u don't go 2 early, May good choice or early June..remember you both will need NY state fishing licenses..EXtrat cost there..For something a little different I say a May trip to the Deleware for shad could be a blast..HObo charters has a good record..For another different style of fishing I'd recomend Striper charter on the Hudson..Lots of charters listed on the PC..This mite be alittle further to travel.. But could turn into your trip of a life time.U can find tons of info on computer..Striper trip I'd try for 2nd week of May..Good luck...BTW these trips book fast..Run usually over by late May..

![]() It's not NJ but I would highly recommend the Susqy out side of Harrisburg PA for smallies. If you've never fished it you need to...and I think April is the start of the spring season...maybe May. I have a great guide service I've used if you are interested and they can recommend lodging depending on where you want to fish out of. They have many launch points they use based on the timing and client needs. PM me if you want the contact info. Really a great river and fishery. World Class.

![]() Late April should be good for shad. There are a couple of guides down by Lambertville. It can be a real blast when the fishing is good, and a lot of times it is.

Lake George NY is iced out by the end of April and lake trout are feeding on top near the feeder streams and brooks gorging on smelt. Also salmon in the mix but verry spotty. Capt JJ on Rod Bender I have used a few times and he always has put me on fish. He runa a trip motel combo which the hotel is on the lake but not sure of the dock fishing at this area. I have a time share up there and do quite well off of my dock with lake trout primarily because there is a feeder stream along the property line that holds smelt and the trout stage in front of that stream. 200 miles and 3 hours from NJ. April is off season so hotel can be found easily and reasonably cheap. Mabey hit a few rivers and streams along the way and heading back. Roscoe NY has a good river trout fishery as well as many others rivers in that area.

![]() The lower Delaware is a good option, you can fish for shad, bass and maybe get a striper. I'm not sure but I think the upper Delaware doesn't kick into high gear until mid May.
You could also to an open boat trip for stripers around Cape May if you wanted to go to the salt. There's a few capts who do back bay skiff trips casting for stripers also. Nevr tried this but it's on my list. There's also the Salmon River in NY for Steelhead. A little further than 3hrs but worth the trip. Also further than 3 hours is Lake Erie in Buffalo. Late April is prime time for huge Smallies up there. Good luck and have fun! |
