Default Big mohawk

December 21, 2014

we had yet another beautiful december day out on

the ocean. Fishing was good for some, and picky for

others. A lot of guys did have their limits. The pool winner

was jsut shy of 11 lbs. We will be headed out at 7am tomorrow. We

will have whiteleggers available on board. See you then.

Fyi: These big fish that we are catching, we are releasing back into

the ocean!

I fished on the Big Mohawk today and I didn't do too well, but I'm new to blackfishing and maybe I'll figure it out one of these trips. I'm hitting different boats to pick anglers brains about this type of fishing and everyone has been a big help. The mates were very helpful and they had the magic touch getting people unhung. Thanks Captain for having the whiteleggers available at a reasonable price and for leaving the dock early to give us more fishing time.

Got my start black fishing the Big Mohawk about 27 yrs ago. Showed up with my Diawa sealine rod and shimano TLD 5 rigged with mono. One of the mates at the time was Chris who I later came to find out was the father of Chris the Mate on the Mimi. He asked me where I got rod as it was his favorite rod but they did not make that model anymore and he was looking for one. The following week I showed up with brand new rod of model that he has been looking for and gave it to him. He was so appreciative I got 3 free trips on the boat and he kinda took a liking to me as I was eager to learn. Since that time it has been a constant learning experience. When you finally think you figured them out you have a trip that humbles you and has you scratching your head. After all these years I am still learning and always trying to improve on my craft. Welcome to the TOG ADDICTION

Time, patience, asking the sharpies questions, and a willingness to donate a lot of lead and rigs to the bottom and you'll get there. I've been at it a few years and every trip I learn something new. Learned a lot from guys I've met through NJFishing and they're always willing to show you how to be a more productive fisherman.
