Default smoking trout and other things...weekend report

so i finally had some time and good weather to get out and wet some lines this weekend by where i live...

location - somewhere near clinton

bait - fish food

so saturday didnt get out till the afternoon around 2:30 was quiet for the first 30 mins or so and then started getting into some really annoying sucker fish like lots of them. if you have never caught one before they suck assssss haha they just sit there and suck up your bait and most of the time dont even tap your pole, you go to reel in and check your bait and they are on there and you will always know you got one on because of that and the fact that they come in like a stick. barely even put up any kind of a fight but after like 6 of those finally got some nice bumps on one of my rods get over to it and set the hook and right away i know its not another sucker fish because she takes off and starts peeling out drag. i had really light trout tackle so had to take it easy getting her in so i wouldnt get snapped off and after about 5 mins and 5 or 6 really nice runs i saw that it was a real chunky bow. fished another half hour after that and the sun started to go down and it got cold as shit so i rolled....

Sunday

so this morning i slept in and didnt get out till around 11 or so. smoked a little spliff to get weird and got my lines wet. first hour was nothing but 2 or three suckers again on worms so i threw some powerbait on one of the poles and about 30 seconds after i cast i start getting taps. pick up the pole still tapping so i set the hook. she put up a pretty nice fight not as hard as the bow the day before but got it to shore and it was a very nice tiger trout which are pretty rare and the first ive ever caught seen a few brought in here and there by friends but never had one myself.. got that pole re baited with some more powerbait and again get some hits right away but stole it and ran so switched my other pole which had a worm to powerbait.. about 20 mins later get some more action set the hook and right away i can tell this one is real big. she just took off and kept running was really hard to make any headway everytime id get it a few feet closer she would take out another few feet of drag after. on and on this went for what seemed like 20 mins thanks to the spliff haha but was actually probly more like 5 to 10 but got her in the net finally, and it was another really fat bow bigger than the one the day before and the biggest iv had in a long while. low 20s easy to mid 20s and really nicely colored no tape measure cause i was releasing everything and the only pics are on my phone but my touch screen is broke so i cant send them anywhere unfortunately but after that one more decent sized bow and about 4 or 5 hit and runs i decided to head out not to bad for about 5 hours of combined fishing time...

at least 8 suckers, 3 bows, and one tiger all well over keeper size and all released back to get ever fattier.. now for me watch football and play poker all day and grind out some loot not a bad sunday in my world

.

Sounds like a nice weekend.

I haven't caught a sucker in a long time. As a kid, I remember hundreds of them going on these suicidal spawning runs in the spring. They would start in the upper-Passaic River and run up these tiny creeks until they were stranded in the shallow pools.

I used to collect some of them in buckets, but then I would have no idea what to do with them.

haha yea eskimo this one place i fish is infested with them. I wouldnt mind if they were of the small variety and i could use them as some pike bait or something, but all the ones i catch are full size and annoying, thats the good thing about the powerbait at least you usually know whats hitting it and it not the suckers
