Good Luck Point at the end of Toms River is always a good spot for crabs. I don't think the time is that important.

I've scouted down there for a public access spot or at least some place I won't get yelled at for being there around Good Luck Point, but couldn't find any places. I'd love to know if there are any good specific spots there too!

Urban Angler - You always have a few public docks over in Seaside Park or Lavalette. Berkley Island State Park is open for foot traffic and produced for me a few weeks ago on the west side bulkhead. Chicken and bunker were equal in production. Also, slack tide tends not to produce. There is a good NJ crabbing reports website that people share lots of info on also. ;-)

I went to Seaside Heights the day after Labor day. We went to the public docks and seined some spearing and threaded them onto the wire in my traps. We had two or 3 crabs at a time all day but no size to them at all. Even had small blowfish in the traps. Another crabber had 8 keepers on handlines and chicken but he said that he'd been there awhile. Tried fishing for blowfish and landed a small fluke about 12". Plenty of action but nothing worth keeping.

The Lavallette dock catches are poor at best.

I would go in back of the Stewarts Root Beer restaurant in SSH. Worst case is you don't catch the crabs, the hot dogs are great.

Nice! You have to park outside the park in one of the open dirt lots and then walk all the way in. I was lucky to have a wheeled cooler. I started in the protected cove with traps and hand lines with a few prospect traps along the west side bulkhead that is more open. Nothing inside the cove but nice ones along the west side. People out on the pier were not catching when I was there but that can change. Part of it is still closed due to Sandy and apparently someone was badly injured there a few weeks ago, so be careful. Bunker caught more keepers while chicken had shorts. I also tried cooked shrimp which worked well! I hung it in a mesh bag and the crabs tore it apart! I will try to construct a metal cage to contain the shrimp next time or get a heavier duty mesh. I think the bathrooms were closed but there was a porta john in the parking lot. I got nothing til the tide changed and started flowing out. Was dead at slack tide to start my trip. Good luck!!
