Today we had Hurricane Dave's crew on for a mixed bag trip. The guys wanted to try some fluking before shoving off and trying some wrecks out in the hole for ling and what not.
Fluking for us in the 2 hours we did it in the am was kinda slow, lots of shorts, just 2 made it.
Around 9 we made a move offshore (when the wind crapped out) and hit a wreck we haven't fished since June in the 200' range. When we got out there we found a screaming south current - we were able to sit on the wreck but we sat in the trough as the wind started whipping so the guys were getting beat up a bit. Nevertheless they went to work on the ling and had a fairly steady pick for an hour. We also landed 2 cod and 3 flounder at this piece. B
By around 11:30 the wind from the west started cranking, so we went a little bit more inshore and fished a drop at 110' and had a quick flurry of nice ling as well as some short tog, banana cod, and a sea raven.
When that dried up to nothing we went inshore to try for seabass and fluke, and wound up picking some more short fluke, one more keeper, and just 1 nice seabass in the filthy dirty water. We also hooked a couple of 40-50# cownose rays on the bucktails in there.
For the day the guys wound up with ~50 ling, 3 fluke, 3 flounder, 1 seabass, and the cod and raven. Conditions definitely were not in our favor today with the wind and the current, but the guys were able to piece it together and were able to stink up the fish box a little bit.
The pic below of the fluke (20") and the flounder (19") is kinda cool
