Reel Class Saturday 6/14 Bottom Report
Apologies for the late report from yesterday, and Happy Father's day to everyone!
Yesterday we sailed with a full open boat - started out searching for bunkers & bass... Found lots of scattered, almost unsnaggable bunker, but had some great reads so we put the spoons out for 45 minutes -- not even a touch for us so we opted for plan B - head off to do some bottom fishing.
First drop was very good, loads of life with mixed sized seabass, dominated by shorts, but basically drop and reel fishing. By around 9:30 or so, the N current started screaming, and the bite slowed considerably. We then bounced around, but could never get it going again as we scraped up a keeper here and there with an occasional ling mixed in.
By noon time the guys wanted to try some fluke fishing, and we did just that on a few high spots to our NE, and only had a sundial, skate, and jumbo bird for our efforts. Drift was screaming (1.6kts) with the current and breeze, so 8 oz. bucktails were skipping - NG!
Finished the day back in on the beach with the bunkers and the readings - still NG!
Finished the day with just 2 dozen keeper seabass and 5 ling - VERY tough fishing but at least the guys came away with some meat for dinner - thanks for coming down!!!
