Bought a pound of 60-70 heads on shrimp to try tomorrow. Cooked or raw?

Never done it myself, but I thought the expert on shrimpin' for tog buys them cooked.

I always used them slightly cooked.

they are a very good bait. the one challenge is that a tog can take a shrimp off the hook pretty quickly. Be ready to set the hook early.

I wouldn't cook them unless you are making Scampi.. A better question might be
"shell on or off"?..... I am not sure of that one myself...

Never tried shrimp for anything in NJ saltwater, but have figured for many decades they would work fine for a variety of species.. Just never needed anything besides green crabs for decades until pressure became so intense...

they work up here for bullheads in the spring, better than anything else... bob

First used shrimp years ago on a 6 pack in Va in May. We had greenies but the Captain pulled out a bag of cooked shrimp. When the greenies were just ok we tried the shrimp. Game on. Saw more 10# fish that day than any day since.

Being a group of very good fisherman (lol) we thought we could out do the captain. We went out and bought fresh, shell on and shell off. Spent a few bucks. The next day showed how smart we were. The cooked outfished the raw fresh. It maybe the pink color.

Up here in the North country I have found shrimp (cooked) to be a good January bait. I don't bother any other time of the year.

Last spring I fished with some buds in Delaware on a boat that the taxman grabbed during the winter. Locals used shrimp and caught quite a few tog. Most were small, many throwbacks.

We fished greenies and did much better in terms of size.

Thanks. I'll cook them. If they don't work I'll eat them.
