Default Pequest 1/17/14 lights out fishing

Hit the pequest tca today solo. It was a day to remember, that's for damn certain. I pulled into the lot around 9am to decent snowfall and it was almost full of cars. Worked my way upstream and fished around the outflow of the hatchery, above it, and a little below it. I dunno if the hatchery purged a surplus of rainbows or what, but there was shoals of fish in every hole. Everyone was catching everywhere I looked. Fish we're rolling on the surface and splashing all over the place. I hooked and landed a gross number of bows. I stopped counting at 15. Got fish on jigs, bead head woolly buggers, grub tails & small shads on jig heads. Fish ranged from 7"-18". The larger ones were spewing jazz and eggs all over when landed. The smaller fish we're slurping up the goods as they hit the water. It was pretty f'n epic fishing. I left at 2-230 with frozen hands and a sh*t eatin' grin on my face. I did, however, lose a screamer. Second time this year a solid fish came unbuttoned on me. After landing all those fish, I can't get my mind off the one that got away!!!

I took zero pics this time. Solo, waist deep...not worth risking my phone, esp with frozen hands.

And so it goes...catch 'em up!

Thanks shuck.

The fish were spread out from right above the sluice way down. Every hole seemed to be holding fish. It was pretty wild seeing bent rods everywhere. Everyone was pretty courteous too. The fly guys were even talking to me while I had a spinning setup in my hands! Lol

Good for you man. Guess I picked the wrong river the other day. I hit up SB/Raritan in Califon but had to call it a day after 2 hours due to a frozen right foot. Time for new waders.

I doubled up on socks...thin layer followed by heavy wool and my feet froze eventually in my neoprenes.

Possibly... It's colder today though. Lots of frozen guides and frustrated fly guys for sure! Also, it was railed yesterday with guys every 25 ft...

Sounds like a great day dude. Trout have the feedbags on boys. Get out and play, it's never too cold out as long as your dressed.
