Do to nothing being open worth fishing for right now except bass, why dont these people who make the regs see while closing some fisheries to bring it back.......they are putting all pressure on one other species so anyone that needs to make money in the industry will now be fishing for bass.....well done and great thinking as usual for the government

Yeah like open the fall season for Winter Flounder. Right now you could be fishing for those nice 4lb great eating flatties. Tell me how many people would like to see that fill in the gap between this Sea Bass closure. From what I understand was that when the regulations came up years ago to change it to was it was presently is there was going to be a fall season. Somebody at that meeting said who cares nobody fish's for the Flounder in the fall anyway a very dumb answer if you ask me.

Here's a sample of Mass limits tell that me were not getting F#^*!d

Winter Flounder (North of Cape Cod)
12″
All year
8 fish
Winter Flounder
(South & East of Cape Cod)
12“
Apr. 27 – May 26
2 fish
Sept. 28 – Oct. 27

Couldnt agree with you more on this one Doug - I feel the same way about the flounder - We are getting screwed but yet other states have very liberal restrictions

They are easy 3lbs plus out there all year round so someone can make money instead of someone taking some home and enjoy catching and eating them - El Bastardoes - Would be great to do a trip right now for ling , sea bass and flounder

BTW - they are my favorite

Rumor has it that Rhode Island down to Delaware have the same regulations for all fisheries in the next year or two. Stand by to see how that works out.

You are 100% correct Joey! That is one of the arguments I use at the New Jersey Marine Fisheries meetings. I favor longer seasons even if the size limits need to be raised to do that. For example sea bass season could have been open for many more days if we had just raised the size limit to
13". There is very little meat on a 12 1/2" sea bass anyhow.
Worse yet is exactly what you stated. I now see boats including charter and party boats that never used to fish for stripers targeting them because other species such as fluke and sea bass are closed. Worse still is the fact that some of these boats are composed of an entireley different clientel, specifially meat fishermen. This in turn is putting far too much pressure on our striper stock.
We need more people like you to become involved by attending meetings or at least writing a letter.

Don't see how cbass being closed for 2 weeks puts pressure on the striped bass population...especially from "meat fisherman". Paul no disrespect but last time I looked up the term fisherman there was just one kind of fisherman....not "meat" or "catch and release". An angler is an angler.

But seriously the Bass are not around in full force yet...most people are catching the residents that have been here all summer long. The bays up north do have some visitors but nothing crazy yet. I think most of the catches we see now are residents anyway.

And if people wanted strictly meat then we still have blue fish open with many more fares targeting them now rather then striped bass, otherwise we would see the party boats post about bass sailings. So again I don't see how this two weeks closure puts extra pressure on the very light bite we have going on. Oh and lets not forget pelgics are just coming into a very hot bite now so guys can get their meat 90 miles east too!

Harpoon, I was not referring to just the 2 week closure on sea bass that we currrently have. I was referring to longer closures in both spring and fall during several recent years.
