Re: Pequest 10th Annual Teen Angler Youth Day 7/20/13
It is always fun! Catch & release as many rainbows (some are 5 lber's) as you want,..........& take one home to eat. Some kids refuse lunch,.....as they would rather keep fishing.
Last year, we were a bit short on prizes so our CO's donated several nice rod & reel combos that were originally confiscated from violators. Prior to the drawing for the prizes, I announced to the gathered Teen Anglers, that: “These rods & reels were confiscated from anglers who did not abide by NJ F&W regulations. Let that be a lesson to all of you. Always have a valid fishing license & obey all of the laws.” I overheard one of the youths say, “I want to get one of those criminal rods!” Having street cred (or maybe stream cred),…………….they were some of the first prizes selected. |

I was lucky enough to fish the Pequest pond a few times....it was really fun.
Do you think they check I.D. to see if your not, say 58 The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife will be hosting the 10th Annual Teen Angler Youth Day on Saturday, July 20, at the Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center. The event is scheduled from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and will be held rain or shine. National Teen Anglers is a non-profit organization that starts fishing clubs in middle and high schools throughout the country. This program is open to anglers aged 8 - 20/college and there is no fee. Participants should wear sunglasses or another form of eye protection (required) and bring their own fishing tackle (barbless hooks only.) Worms for the trout and lunch for you will be provided. Each participant may keep one trout 18 inches or greater, so those hoping to bring home a trout need to have a cooler & ice. Prizes will also be awarded to all participants thanks to the generosity of the Teen Angler Program sponsors. Registration is required. Interested anglers can sign up now at the Teen Angler Web site at: http://www.teenanglers.org/ . The Pequest Trout Hatchery and Natural Resource Education Center is located on Rt. 46 approximately 8 miles west of Hackettstown in scenic Warren County - see http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/peqdirct.htm for directions.
