Default mom and dad??

LM Bass..Do male n Female sit on the nest.. I could see a 4Lb. sittin on the nest looked at my rubber worm but notta.. So I trew on a fly caught a lil sunny and knew what was bout to happen.. But soon as the sunny hit the water, from under the weeds on shore out came (I think) mama.. Im an idiot and after I caught the sunny I tied a quick clinch knot w/ 6 lb test around a big worm hook and knot popped..SUX.. The eye is jus to big to use that knot wit thin line wit enough pressure it slips and pops..I don't know if it was jus the excitement but I think it was a diff fish cuz it looked like an easy 6 no bs and it was 2 feet off shore I had a good look!! so0 does ne1 know if booth bass guard the nest??? After all that too the one on the nest ate the sunny and I somehow mist em and bumped it 2 after that..ill be postin a pic when I get em..

Largemouth bass behavior is fascinating.

Although the nest requires a female to lay the eggs, the eggs are actually guarded from predation by the male. The male bass will even stay with the fry after the hatch for a short while. Day-and-night he has to keep those helpless little fry from getting picked off by sunfish and the like. When the bass is removed from the nest, all the fry could be quickly devoured.

Here's a short online article about bass spawning behavior:

It is usually the male that sits on the nest to guard the eggs/fry, but the female often mills around the area, helping to chase away any would-be predators. Also, if the male is caught, the female often moves right in to take its place on the nest.

They may not have spawned yet....did you see any fry?....She may have been hanging just off the nest and was hungry! They will do that before the deed is done as well.
