Very sad.... Just shows you how nastly inlets can be when the wind is honking. Larger boats don't always mean safer. In certain instances their lack of power/acceleration restricts their ability to power out of situtations and they are at the mercy of the swells.... Not sure if this was the case in this instance but it could have been a contributing factor. A smaller boat with good ample power or even a jet ski might have had a better chance navigating the inlet because of their ability to react and accelerate quicker. It's situations like this where you don't want an underpowered boat. Best rule of thumb is to be within at least 75% of the horse power rating of your hull. You might not think you need it but you will appreciate having it if you get caught in a nasty inlet.
