Default Belmar surf - Sat Morning

Passed some time on Saturday morn at the Shark River Inlet. Had a little fun with some cocktail blues on metal at about 10am - right around low tide.

Then I stepped onto the sand for some stripers. Rough surf with a few days of East wind. as soon as I dropped bait in water it was hit - but they were spikes - 12-16 inches. There had to hundreds around because they were quick to hit. you had to hold the rod in your hand to feel the bite as it was rough and they oftne hit within 20 seconds or so. I wish I had some smaller hooks with me...probably would have had more hook ups. All went back with as gentle handling as possible.

Amazaed at how much sand was lost on that beach. I"m seeing old rocks and wood in the sand I have never seen before that had been buried...but at low tide were right in front of me. Sandy also seemed to have actually moved some of those massive boulders as the jetty "eases" into the water more than before...good for smashing clams and attracting fish, hopefully, but easy to snag or cut line. It's a trade off I guess.

anyway, as it was my first surf fishing venture since pre-Sandy it was a beautiful morning and I got to bend a rod....even if it was only slightly bent due to the fish being small. All good.
