Default Echo Lake 4/20

Gave it a shot knowing I have never done well there. Used powerbait, butter worms, and baby night crawlers. I didnt see one trout caught the entire time I was there. Managed some nice size catfish, sunfish, and what looked to be a golden shiner. Wind was pretty bad out there. Most likely will not be trying this place again.

Cross the creek below the falls and fish the other side. The trout are there.

I might have to try doing that. I know some people were fishing below the falls. Not sure what is down in there but I cant imagine there is much. Looked like a dead body of water. Also saw some guy walking around with this sonar thing. He would toss in it in the water to see where the fish are. Not sure if it worked or not, but it was a sight to behold!

Where Eddie described is no doubt where the fish are. That's Lower Echo lake. That's also where they dumped the fish from Nomahegan, minus the carp. Upper Echo Lake has some decent bass fishing. I used to rent the paddleboats and hammer the far shoreline and do very well with cookie cutters with a chunk or two in the mix. Upper Echo is supposed to have channel cats too, but the only thing I've caught at night on crawlers was ten thousand 8-inch bullheads. More trouble than it's worth IMHO opionion. Never had luck with the carp in Upper Echo either. They also did a similar-to-Nomahegan operation there with the shoreline, so not sure if they moved any fish. You should check-out nearby Lenape too. Quieter, nicer place with halfway decent fishing. Tight lines.

the far side is better don't cast that far when you're over there. use an unusually long leader if you use powerbait, about 3-4".

I was fishing lower echo lake. Most of the people were on the side with the concrete walkway, including myself. I didnt see many people on the other side, but I would assume if I walked over there to fish by the dam above the falls. I tried that trap and skeet are there, fishing from the rocks. Didnt catch much, but I do remember one opening day getting a limit there. I just think these areas get absolutely pounded and fished out.

Tried it myself last year. A mud hole to say the least. Caught and released two trout on #1 gold Vibrex Blue Fox spinner. Can't imagine eating a fish where storm run off polluted water fills the mud hole up. Nasty. That slow water is not trout water to me. Give me a fast running stream or river any day over that kind of fishing. And the people fishing there were trashy. But the CO told me he catches people all the time there fishing without licenses. He said it's a daily two stop place on his schedule. Who wants to be bothered with that BS when you're out trying to enjoy yourself? Like you stated, "Once is enough!"
