Default Somerset Show

Any comments about the show? I went on Friday and Saturday and it was packed both days. Many of the sellers were willing to bargain a bit. The seminars were relevant to the area and informative. There were lots of jigs and teasers on display just about everywhere. Tsunmi/Bimini Bay had a great display and their product line of rods is especially worth checking out. The Shimano pros were very helpful and extremely well-versed in their products. Captains Fred Gamboa and Jimmy Gamm were living testaments to the quality of the Shimano tackle which they use exclusively. Legends of the sport like Milt Rosko, Dick Kondak, Al Ristori, Gerry Gomber, Don Kamienski, Bob Bogan, Nick Cicero, and Doug Rusch all were there and shared their personal accounts of the changes, improvements and trends in equipment and techniques that have affected the history of our sport. With all of the uncertainty about the upcoming season, it was uplifting to hear their positive spin on what lies in store for us this year and the future. While it was sad to hear of the inconveniences that we will all face once the seasons start, it was good to hear that improvements are slowly being made to marinas and especially to the fuel docks along the northern waterways. The show was more of a convention or reunion more than anything and for me it was extremely worthwhile even though I came home with less money in my wallet but lots of enthusiasm to get out and wet a line.

Thumbs up Re: Somerset Show

I went on Fri.,after contacting Don from Canyon Reels asking if I could drop my reel off for service. He said bring it in, I believe he rebuilt it right there and then. Great customer service, I looked at the HS16 it is as Alex said a beast.
Picked up some jig hooks from Kevin Bogan some squids form the worm bar seen a lot of peeps I know. Also stopped to see George G&B, Capt Bob Gambler.
Very Good turn out.

The show was great. Felt good to be there, picked up some new items for the upcoming fluke season. Loads of displays and a lot of interesting tackle on display. Was good to say so many faces and of course always good to see Capt. Chad, Capt. Bob Bogan and Kevin Bogan. Also had an opportunity to see someone I haven't seen since the eight grade of school, Capt. Jim Freda. Also was good to see a couple of my buddies over near the refreshment stand, Jay and Steve. Well, guess we have to wait a few more weeks to get out and wet a line.

I went Friday after work for a couple of hours and saw a lot of familiar faces. Hung out with Don from Canyon, Tom and Tony from Jersey Coast, and got to pick Alex's brain for a few regarding his experience with the HS-16. I saw one of Tom's personal Jersey Jigger rods and decided I had to have one for myself....besides, I wasn't gonna leave without spending some coin . Tony took out his notepad and wrote down the details on how I want the rod done, lookin' forward to the finished product.

It was fun. Perfectly timed to stir the juices. Managed to get out of there relatively unscathed, $60 or so. There were some good deals but not in the stuff I needed. Love those Run Off sand eel lures but no deals there. Were there any tackle box/bags on display? If so, must have missed it. Legs still aching from the 5K marathon to and fro the parking area.

The Runoff spreaders were interesting. I did buy one out of curiosity. The sandeel jigs were realistic but the sandeel jigs that were sold by Jetty Ghost were even better and in a variety of colors and sizes. If you get a chance, check them out if you are a surf guy or check the larger sizes if you fish from a boat.
