Default Jigging Master Power Spell 500G on a party boat?

Since it is 4'8 is this going to be too short to use? I bought this to replace a penn torque rod that I have (think it's a 6'6 or 7' rod) but not sure if the short jiggng stick will be ideal for fishing off a party boat in the canyon for yellowfin this week. Any Thoughts?

My opinion is probably in the minority on this topic but with that said, I wouldn't hesitate to use it at all.
Actually, the JM 500g is mostly overkill. My go-to rod in NJ is a JM 300g and I haven't encountered a fish so far on that rod that I couldn't easily whip in short order.

I would use it, great rod. Only disadvantage is maybe casting distance if the fish are on the surface or if the fish goes under the boat.

I have a 2x4 in my shed... It's 8' same action- will put a seat and guides on if ya want, that sounds like the rod that stays in the holder with a 130 on it till the fish is close and club it on the head with it- only my opinion though
I like a longer stick for jiggin and longer just for a lil wiggle room off the bulkhead
Did I say I would go longer?

I found longer rods easier to work with on PB, just because it was easier to clear the hull. But that does not mean that shorter rods cannot be used.

One thing about the 500G rating though.. Most jigs you use for tuna won't be heavy enough to load the rod properly.. Might wanna go with 300G as Sea Bear suggested if you still have a choice..

I use nothing under 5'8", so my answer is yes. Again, its all up to the angler. I hate nothing more than not being able to move around a bit and being able to keep the jig & fish away from the hull. Before I started playing with longer lengths, I lost a fish or two, as well as witnessing several fish lost on head boats because the fish will run under the boat and rub against the hull, until........SNAP!!!!!

Its an argument that will have 2 sides, both being right in their own way. I have settled in on 5'8", 6', and even a 6'6" rod that is plenty strong enough for NJ and even the average Carolina fish. In fact, Capt Paul on the Bounty Hunter has been field testing our 6'6" Bushido Rods and he has been very happy with them to date. You can check out his reports on his website to see what he thinks.

I agree that the 500g rod is a bot overkill for NJ, but who knows, it may help you stop that run under the boat. Im 6' tall, I just dont feel comfortable with that small of a rod. I like to have more control I guess....but many guys bigger than me still like the shorter rods, so like I said.....2 sides to this one.

We have rods we lend out, if your interested??? You bring it along and maybe get a chance to compare it. This was the ONLY way I was able to get so many people using the longer parabolic rods. It was costly to lend out so many rods, but seeing is believing. We seem to convert about 85%-90% of the "subjects"..... Contact me if interested.
