![]() Great day had by all who attended today's kids fishing derby in Cranford. The Chapter arrived early to set up the prize table and immediately we had people signing up and asking questions. The kids grabbed their cup's of worms and by the start of the event at 9:00 there were 28 kids lined around Nomahegan Park lake. It wasn't to long before we had our first hookup. The bites continued all morning with the board members running around like crazed geese recording measurements and helping out as needed. The smiles and laugh's were endless, we don't know who had more fun the kids, parents or us. Some members rigged up their fly rods and introduced this method of fishing to many for the first time. I had one boy catch his first fish on the fly with an antique bamboo rod I had in tow. When all was said and done there was a tie for first place with two contestants both catching 7 1/4" smallmouths. Many other boys & girls came close with varying types of panfish. We awarded all who attended choice prizes of fishing rods, stocked tackle boxes, lures & even a singing fish. Thanks to those who donated prizes & time to this annual event, especially our VP David Licks for who put this all together - I'd say it was a huge success. Parent's thanked us to no end for hosting this event & introducing many kids to fishing for the first time.
