RVTA 2012 Trophy Trout Stocking

The 2012 Trophy Trout Are In. . . Go Get ‘em!
On Saturday, March 24, the Round Valley Trout Association, Trophy Trout Committee completed it’s 2012 stocking of this year’s trophy sized fish. 110 Rainbow, Brown (and a few Goldens) were delivered promptly at 10 am, by Musky Trout Hatchery to the gravel launch ramp at the reservoir. All were in the 24 to 28 inch range. Despite windy conditions making boat handling a bit challenging, the club managed to get all 110 fish safely transferred from the trucks, to the boats, and to their new home in Round Valley Reservoir within an hour. All fish are jaw tagged. Anyone catching one of these giants should fill out a RVTA 2012 Trophy Trout Derby entry form available at www.fishrvta.com and send it into the club along with the tag to be eligible in the RVTA February 2013 prize drawing.

I saw 5 of them cruise by yesterday in my 4+ hours on shore, one being a golden trout when I first got to my spot. A pair of rainbows hanging out together came up close that were easily over 6 LBS each, it really gets your heart racing when you see that.

Sadly, all of them had a bad case of lockjaw.

Like the big ones they put in the rivers in the fall, 2 to 3 weeks before they chew. They have alot of body mass they can play with, and the water is VERY cold. On average they will lose 1 to 2 lbs. before being caught.
