Default Looking for some advice...

So I'm looking for some serious where/when and what advice to go fishing this weekend. Personally I love bass fishing and am getting completely skunked this season every time I go out. I own a 19 foot fiberglass with a 65hp outboard and a 12ft Jon boat with just an electric trolling motor so I can get out on about any water in the state.

I am just having terrible luck. (or just I don't know what I'm doing) I have tried night fishing at round valley, daytime on hopatcong and various spruce run visits and keep coming up fish-less.

Thanks in advance guys,
Mike

Mike, this isn't the best time of the year to be a bass fisherman in New Jersey. As a general rule of thumb, you're looking at active fish from 1st light and a couple hours after that and again at dusk. Fish can be caught during the day, but on sunny days will retreat to deeper water and can be tough to find and get to bite. I can also tell you that although all those lakes you've tried have some incredible fishing, they can be tough on even those that have fished them their whole lives. My suggestion would be to try some smaller water with the Jon and the trolling motor. Assunpink Lake, Stone Tavern Lake and Rising Sun Lake, all on the Assunpink Wildlife Management Area, are good places to shake a skunk off, provided you get there before the sun comes up too much.

BTW, I see you're in Hunterdon. Those lakes shouldn't be too bad a drive, but Amwell Lake has some good fishing as well and is closer to home for you.

This is what I was hoping to hear, the drive isn't really an issue, if the fishing is pretty good its worth the trip. Thanks again, and fall is right around the corner so hopefully it will pick up then. Ill be going out this Friday after work (around 5) and Sat. morning. Maybe ill see some of you guys out there.

Topwater at dawn and dusk.Work deep and in the shade once the sun is up or go home(fishing is usually slower no matter what). Good luck.
