Did a little exploring today and tried the green brook which is a very small stream with a few pools.Caught a mixture of fish all on artificials,Brookies, bass, shiners, suckers, white perch, crappies and sunnies.Walked about a mile on this stream and seen deer, snakes and some colorful birds= nice day out

What you didn't see was water! That is a brook that needs some cleanup and some maintenance. Except for the two waterfall holes and maybe one other deep hole, there is nothing. Every flood brings more silt and the brook keeps getting worse. I'm really surprised they keep stocking it but it serves its purpose.

It starts at Seeley's Pond in Scotch Plains and runs along the road next to the Weldon Quarry. The entire stocked stretch of stream is only about 1/2 mile long. I understand why it's stocked but I still question the wisdom of the state when it stocks some of the places it does. Still, the quality of the areas that have been stocked should be reevaluated and improved if the state wants to encourage another generation of anglers to start fishing close to home. We all got started fishing somewhere close to home and this stream is close to a lot of youngsters who might grow up to be future T.U. members or fisheries biologists or just happy anglers.

You make a good point. I started my Trout days on the Saddle River in the Paramus-Ridgewood area back when a fishing licence was $4.15, there was no trout stamp to buy either. Had fun caught a few, fell in the river more times then I caught fish.
The Saddle River today as far as I know is not stocked down stream further then the Duck Pond in Ridgewood.
Last time I was up that way I was shocked at all the channeling and flood control. Glad I was a kid when I was

I think most of the kids up there now are future video game masters as well as texting wizards
