I feel what you are saying brother. The loss of my father put me in a strange place. After some time reflecting I'm very thankful to have had him in my life. An interesting side note my friend caught a fluke yesterday that puked up a Chesapeake striped blenny. I have never seen that item on the menu.

The fluke my dad is holding was 14 and change lbs, straight outta Montauk harbor inlet a few miles out. Funny thing is, a day or two prior, I was with him, my mother and my family of 5 for a 4 night stay on block island with the boat. At night after the kids were asleep, me and the lady filled a cooler bag with beers and cocktails and hit the end of the dock in a steady drizzle armed with light spinning gear and squid jigs. We went on to catch nearly 10 lbs of squid that night.

After my family and i departed Montauk, my parents stayed a few more days. My dad found a neatly packed bag of squid in his boat's freezer and took it fishing on his buddy's boat after we left. He pulled the biggest squid out of the bag and dropped it down on a double hook bait rig and landed that doormat on it.

Once he got back to the dock he called me up and said "thanks for the squid you left me... put a nice fish on the boat today". Then he sent me the pic and the weight. I told him I get credit for half the catch. He laughed hysterically...

I surely miss him.
