Default Surf Fishing

Bass fishing has been very good in the back of Barnegat Bay this fall. Not so good out front so far for me. Did a number of night sessions the past three weeks and was fortunate to catch a few but overall its been slow. Last night I fished for five hours and landed one lost one and had a bump. This morning I tried predawn through sunrise and never had a touch. Wondering how others on here are making out so far?

It cooled down a few weeks ago up north. The year was a solid “B”. Caught at least one fish on every outing, unfortunately never caught one in the 28” keeper range. Lot of bait, that was nice.

Caught, tagged and released 3 bass in January, 1 in September, 2 in the back Tuesday night and 2 Friday night with 2 blues in the surf. Caught nothing on 6 consecutive trips recently. Only landed 6 fish in 6 trips last week. Best fishing was on the new moon in the rain.

Did a few night shifts last week fishing Monmouth and Ocean counties. Last Tuesday got 3 Bass 2 on a plug 1 on the teaser. Got skunked Wednesday and Thursday. Friday got a decent fish on a teaser, dropped one and had a few bumps. Saturday I dropped one and had alot of bumps, landed an ambitious windowpane Flounder on a needlefish. Quite a few guys were out Tuesday but not many the rest of the week. It was good to get out and the conditions were good overall, I did alot of recon and found some promising structure.

Caught, tagged and released a 25.5” striped bass on a Bomber at night. Then caught a squid on a teaser. Caught, tagged and released a 17” bluefish on the squid. First action for me in the last two weeks. New moon fishing is the best.
