When it rains it pours...Larry’s!
In years past pre-spawn has usually produced my biggest largemouths of the year however 2020 I couldn’t seem to catch anything even picture-worthy. Then starting Friday morning, it’s like the fishing gods flipped a switch. Largemouth are now on the beds, at least where I have been fishing, but while I usually don’t have much luck sight fishing bass on their beds, Friday morning I saw a large dark shadow passing over a light colored area on the pond bottom (I.e. a bed) so I cast past and did a slow and steady retrieve over the bed. Bam, fish on and a nice 4 lber landed. I was feeling pretty good so cut out of work early Friday and within a few casts at a different spot cast at another bed even though I didn’t see anything guarding it and was rewarded with a fish even bigger than the one that morning, prob. About 4.5-4.75 lbs. I felt like I was back in the game. Capped things off the with a nice 3.5 lber out of a different heavily fished Union county spot. Not as big as those from day before but from a much smaller pond. All in all a productive couple days fishing. All fish caught in Union County. The first from a trout stocked county park pond and the other two from undisclosed bodies of water, one very small, the other as large as they come in my home county. Two largest bass caught on black/blue jig with zoom chunk trailer and smaller fish caught on Texas rigged senko on weighted hook.
