Default Gambler 24hr Tuna

Just back from a productive trip...Bob took some time finding our spot- a bit farther out in 65* nice mostly blue, crystal clear water. NOAA, again was spot on(not always off on forecasts) with light 'n variable with gentle seas. Set up a drift @ 3AM with first tuna in @ 4AM, 30# YFT...nothing 'til sun well up @ 7-another yellow, a bit bigger, 40#. No squid at all, one porpoise & only 1 blue shark run/bite off. Had 2 birds put on ice well after sun-up with 5-6 yellows 'til 3 whistles @ 3:00 this PM. Totals= 8-10 tuna(not sure). Like last trip, all the yellows were smaller, birds much larger. Kudos to Capt. Bob & Mike, mates Jill(mate, chef, office manager), Todd & Nico for their continued expertise in all things nautical & angler help. Special mentions: Capt. Bob for his extensive search for "the spot", Capt74-1 yellow & bird, 2na-1 yellow & me(blowing my own horn) 1 yellow(first fish) & 1 bird(pool winner)...yea, I know...Met a couple of guys from this site(NJF)--always cool!!!
BEST FOR LAST: After a 2hr40min fight, a SWOPRDFISH , close to a quadruple marker(400#) boated---a majestic fish--76"(tail fork-lwr lip), 49" girth. Hook-up in dark, boated in full light. What an awesome fish, just fantastic!!!!!!Anger gave steaks to all on board---class act. I'm sure you'll see pix of that fish on Gambler's Facebook.
Bob's thinking about another trip, next Wed-Thurs 24hr--needs 20-24 anglers(has 3 so far)…(we just got off the boat,,,LOL...no, seriously, we did!)

It was a good trip. The weather is everything.

I had thought to head down to one of the southern canyons but I could not get a clear satellite temp shot and I was concerned that the water down there might have moved off the edge. I saw a small splash of good water between the Hudson and the Tom's canyon in the deep. I headed for that.

It was nearly a full moon, so we had some current and I took my time in locating the best water for the longest drift (we could not anchor because the Gambler was in nearly 2000ft.

At times, I marked fish from 50 to 200 + foot below.

Very nice conditions on the drift and Chuck summed up the action.

The crew did an awesome job of getting that big swordfish in the boat. Those swords seem to know exactly what they are doing when it comes to hitting the chines and getting wrapped in our running gear. Heavy, heavy, thick fish!

I would love to get out there one more time but we struggled to get just enough passngers to cover expenses this trip. I guess a lot of guys are hunting by now or have spent their tuna cash.

I wonder if it would be possible to get and NJfishing group together? Interested in your thoughts.

...and thanks again to Bob, who was good enough to make sure that everyone aboard, including the crew, got some swordfish steaks!
